On 1 January 2018, new Ionising Radiation Regulations came into effect.
Ionising radiations occurs as either electromagnetic rays (such as X-rays and gamma rays) or particles (such as alpha and beta particles). It occurs naturally (e.g. radon gas) but can also be produced artificially.
If this affects your business, the law has changed. The two main changes are:
how you tell the Health and Safety Executive that you work with ionising radiation
the dose limit for exposure to the lens of the eye - reduced from 150mSv to 20mSv in a year
If your business is affected or produces ionising radiation, visit the HSE website for details of what you need to do, and to download the Approved Code of Practice.
