New Health and Safety Standard set for launch

The new global standard ISO 45001 Occupational Health & Safety Management System will be published on 15 March 2018.

ISO 45001 will replace the existing OHSAS 18001, which is to be withdrawn. It is an Integrated Management Standard, aligned with ISOs 9001 & 14001.‬

According to the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO), across the globe "over 7,600 people die each day from work-related accidents or diseases - that’s over 2.78 million every year."

It adds that the new Standard will "will help organisations reduce this burden by providing a framework to improve employee safety, reduce workplace risks and create better, safer working conditions, all over the world".

Organisations currently OHSAS 18001 compliant will have to transition to the new Standard by March 2021.
