St Helens Worker’s Memorial

I am proud that last month my home town of St Helens unveiled something that is long overdue. 

For too long, those who died while doing their jobs have gone largely unrecognised in this country. But no longer.

On Worker’s Memorial Day - held on 28 April every year - a charity called St Helens Worker’s Memorial unveiled a permanent statue to remember all those who went to work, but never returned home to their families and friends at the end of their shift due to an accident or incident at work.

The Memorial can be found at Vera Page Park, near the Steve Prescott Bridge, formerly Lyons Yard, part of a colliery. It is accessible from Tesco via the Steve Prescott Bridge or from the town centre via Salisbury Street (near the World of Glass and St Helens Chamber). Note there is no parking in Vera Page Park.
