Be Sun Aware

It may be cooler this week, but we are currently part way through National Sun Awareness Week.

Thousands of skin cancer cases in the UK could be prevented if businesses develop ‘sun safety strategies’, the leading chartered body for health and safety professionals, IOSH, warned today.

At least 1,500 new cases of non-melanoma skin cancer (NMSC) and 240 new cases of malignant melanoma linked to solar ultraviolet radiation (UVR) exposure at work are diagnosed in Britain each year.

But 90 per cent of all skin cancer deaths can be prevented if businesses – and their employees – take proper precautions.

So stay SUNSAFE, even if it is cool or cloudy in the Spring and Summer months.

Keep out of the sun when it is at its hottest (11am to 3pm).

Try to cover up as much as possible.

Wear a hat.

Apply plenty of sunscreen. Re-apply sunscreen every 1-2 hours.

Drink lots of fluids.
