On 21 April 2018 the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Regulation (EU) 2016/425 will come into force.
Anyone involved in specifying, sourcing or purchasing PPE will need to ensure that their suppliers meet the new regulations because if they do not, it could leave workers exposed to hazards, impacting on productivity.
Everyone involved in the manufacture, supply and distribution of PPE is affected. The responsibility of proving product compliance falls to the manufacturer, importer or quasi-manufacturer of own brand products. The regulations also reclassify some Category 2 (intermediate) PPE asCaregory3 (complex).
Purchasers of PPE should ensure their suppliers;
provide a declaration of conformity for the PPE.
Define processes for ongoing sample testing to ensure compliance with standards.
define quality assurance processes at the manufacturing facility.
